![]() The review has been written to help those Mac users who don’t want to use trial versions of WebMinds Duplicate Photo Cleaner Pro and PhotoSweeper to discover their requirements, price, benefits, and limitations. The article also provides an easy-to-follow manual for setting up and using the photo cleaners. Let’s start! Overviewĭuplicate Photo Cleaner Pro is a swift photo duplicate finder for Mac, which works for the most popular picture file types. That’s being said, it is necessary to stress that in addition to easily recognizing identical photos, the utility has been designed to help users trim down their scattered albums in one push of a button. But wait, there’s more: if after deleting a bunch of look-alike landscapes you realize that you need to keep them, simply click the Undo button to restore them. PhotoSweeper 3 provides another simple method of detecting and eradicating both identical and similarly-looking pictures from a computer. Forget about a clattered photo library, which contains hundreds of duplicate pictures with this neat application. The scanning abilities of PhotoSweeper will help you to free up multiple gigabytes on your hard drive, thereby leaving more space for bulky photo editing software that is much-needed for any photographer. What’s Under the Hood?ĭuplicate Photo Cleaner Pro has a few nifty tricks under its hood. It goes without saying that the utility uses a powerful scanning algorithm to detect duplicate pictures even in remote directories. What is interesting is that the scanning function of the app can function in the following modes: standard scan, sector detail scan, photos scan, and folder comparison. The use of these modes helps a user to customize their photo search, thereby saving them a fair share of time and effort. PHOTOSWEEPER MOVE LOCKED PHOTOS PROĪnother feature supported by Duplicate Photo Cleaner Pro is exporting, which can be used to save scans to TXT, CSV or HTML files. Furthermore, users can tweak the ignore list, thereby omitting from the scan images that have been cropped or resized. PHOTOSWEEPER MOVE LOCKED PHOTOS SOFTWAREīy setting the similarity threshold, it is possible to search for pictures with pre-established resemblance percentages. No hacking nor tampering with iPhoto system files.Īvailable in English, German, French, Italian and Swedish. Only uses standard Apple features and API's. ![]() Delete duplicates upon detection or mark them with a keyword to make them easily found using iPhoto features like search or smart folders.Detect duplicates by using file specific meta data such as filename, dimensions, filesize, Exif creation date or date of creation.Detect duplicates using effective algorithms using electronic checksums like MD5.Compare images using different algorithms to detect and understand differences.Easily find and annihilate duplicates created internally by iPhoto or during import.Run through a few times first checking my filename, then maybe dimensions, creation date, etc. The similar part is a bit harder as the criteria for similar could be many things. I am not exactly sure it will find your #2 and #3 right out of the gate, but since photos are marked with unique timestamps and other meta data, it should find them even if rotated. For what you need you might need a few passes to get the obvious dups, then find the harder to get ones. You can download and do a run and hopefully get rid and clean your folders the first time through. The best that I could find and have used is Duplicate Annihilator, which works with iPhoto, and is upgraded for 10.8.

The only thing with a long lead time is the Bluestar 30' RNB in Cobalt Blue. Make sure all appliances will be on time and have their install instructions/dimensions on hand for the cabinet makers -Have you picked your hood? Range, hood, and fridge ordered. I'll probably change the tone slightly, but stay pretty basic on wall color. I think someone had the whole house sprayed swiss coffee at some previous point. We're just going to go with some version of off-white walls. Thanks firsthouse and BakerJen! -Pick wall colors I feel I can't do this until I see the granite (and cabinets) installed with this lighting. I'll probably plant last year's shriveled survivors, too, just because I feel sorry for them. And, I did buy about 20lbs of seed potatoes so I would have red, russet, Yukons, and some various fingerling types. The grocery store rejects are all large to very large potatoes, and I am just planting whole, so it doesn't make as many hills as planting small seed potatoes or cut pieces would. I've used a few to eat, since the last of my storage crop from last year is getting real sprouty and shriveled. It sounds like more than it was - I ran into a whole bunch of 10 lb bags of round white potatoes on the clearance rack at Meijer, all sprouty - couldn't resist, $1 a bag, so I ended up buying all they had, which was like 15 bags. If I have any leftovers, which will probably be a few, I'll stick them in containers. I have one more area to plant, roughly 60 x 15. Harvest - me and my pitchfork and some long, hot days in late August, no doubt. Almost everything is under black plastic or thick organic mulch. I have a big Troy Built tiller, but haven't used that except to make new beds. Tractor - nope, haven't had one of those for decades. But then again, they eat tomato foliage, so who knows. Raw potatoes for birds - I've done it for years without issues - I think the only problem might be with the green foliage, where the toxins would occur. How many people - three and a dog in my household, plus relatives and neighbors, and lots of birds (about 70). And, maybe they'll do poorly and not yield well? I have no idea what the return will be - a lot depends on the season/weather. Could I use all of those - not in a million years, but I can always give them away. The third spot is full of clumps of daffodils, so I just have to plant sort of at random around them. I didn't measure precisely, but tried to plant each hill roughly 24' apart, as I generally do. Lots of questions, thanks: Area - so far, this was about 100 x 10, 80 x 10, and 8 x 50. The second and third year is always better and by year #4 you will be on a roll. Problems will develop and you learn from them as you go along. They are always an experiment in progress. Trim whatever you have to to get them as much sun as possible. Quality and quantity decline as the number of hours of sun falls below 8 hours. No way to know if they will get enough sun without seeing the area. Low-growing herbs in front of them would work as long as you can still get to the plants to pick. The pepper and tomato plants will shade out anything you plant in between them so only shade tolerant things would work. Using standard spacing in 25 feet you can do 8 or 9 plants (ie: 5 tomatoes and 4 peppers or 6 tomatoes and 3 peppers or 4 tomatoes, 4 peppers and one stand of pole beans, etc.). Tomatoes and peppers get along fine but you don't want to alternate them as the tomatoes will shade the peppers. Whether or not you can plant anything in with the tomatoes and peppers depends on the # of tomato and pepper plants you plant. They are an early spring crop and won't tolerate the heat but green beans (pole beans) can be planted on a trellis on one end of your tomato/pepper patch. In your zone potatoes are normally planted in early spring as soon as the ground can be worked - say late Feb. ![]() You might get a few if you planted some store bought ones but it would be best IMO to pass on the potatoes for this year. Seed potatoes have been off the shelf for a couple of months now. For all practical purposes it is too late for potatoes. ![]() Many of Dolores' normals have good range that she can poke the opponent with, but her Qafas projectiles are the cream of the crop. ![]() You can also write TeX in commercial code editors such as Sublime Text with the relevant syntax, but you will need to open any documents up in a TeX editor so that they can be rendered. There are also other options out there, such as TeXstudio and the commercial Texpad offering, which I reviewed last year on Mac AppStorm. With MacTeX, you get a couple of free solutions ( TeXworks, which I will use for this tutorial, and TeXShop). However, I would recommend a specific TeX editor as you often get a handy list of tools with them (such as auto-complete and error reporting, which flags up any errors in your TeX coding before the document is rendered). Just like HTML, you can write TeX is virtually any text editor or word processing package. If you've installed all the available updates in the TeX Live Utility, then you should be presented with this screen. Once you've installed it (it'll pop up in a dedicated TeX folder in your applications) then run the TeX Live Utility, which will update your TeX distribution to the latest version. You can download MacTeX directly here (direct download link – the file is approximately 2.1 GB in size) or via the Torrent network. There are quite a few TeX distributions out there that work with OS X, but my personal recommendation would be MacTeX, which is specifically written for the Mac and supports pretty much all OS X versions (including Mountain Lion). In order to be able to write TeX documents on your Mac, you'll first need to download and install a distribution, which renders your documents. If anyone has had to write a long formula in, say, the Equation Editor of Microsoft Word, then they will know how fiddly it is.īefore we get started with our first TeX document, there are a couple of things you need to install on your Mac first. ![]() TeX is used heavily in the academic and scientific world, mostly due to the standardized layout and look of documents (though this can be changed), as well as the fact that TeX renders mathematical formulas extremely well (one of its fortes). His aim with TeX was to create a system so that documents would look the same across all computers and that the look of the documents wouldn't diminish with time. Basically, it is a typesetting language that was designed and developed (mostly) by Donald Knuth, a professor at Stanford University, back in the 1970s. I think it would be prudent to first give you a brief introduction of TeX and why it's so popular within certain circles. This may sound a bit scary, but TeX is a lot simpler to learn than other programming languages and once you've used it for a while you'll soon pick it up really easy. With TeX, you have to learn the various commands before you can start creating documents. It's not as simple as just opening up a word processor such as Pages or Microsoft Word and tapping away. What scares people away from TeX is its learning curve. This tutorial will show you the basics of TeX – how it works and how you can create a nice, simple document with very little effort. TeX is a wonderful and very versatile typesetting system that can be used to write almost anything – from reports to letters and even more complicated documents such as books and posters. ![]() The Cowboys’ helmet stripe and the Bicentennial festivities were a one-year anomaly. Usually, you also have the option to tell the backup service to monitor your drive for changed or new files to back up as they occur. Most backup software lets you schedule scans of your hard drive for new and changed files daily, weekly, monthly, or continually (or at least, say, every 15 minutes). Should you lose the local files, either through disaster or simply by deleting or overwriting them, you can just restore them from the saved copies.įor this to work, the copies of your files must be updated regularly. That storage can be another drive, an external drive, a network-attached storage device (NAS), a rewritable disc, or the cloud-meaning someone else's servers. The concept behind backup software is pretty simple: Make a copy of your files on storage separate from your main hard drive. These features and services are all well worth using, but they have some limitations, lacking some of the extra benefits you get from running standalone backup software. Both also offer some cloud backup, with iCloud and OneDrive, as well. The first makes a copy of your data that you store wherever you choose, such as on an external hard drive. In previous years, we differentiated between local backup software and online backup services. What would you do if your hard drive crashed, you accidentally deleted important files, or your laptop was lost or stolen? They even support multi-device pairing, meaning you can stay connected with your phone and computer at the same time. They have a continuous battery life of about eight hours and come with a portable charging case that stores a couple of extra charges. Their ANC has a similar excellent performance, so it can help reduce noise like rumbling engines or background conversations. These earbuds don't have the same premium feel as the Apple AirPods Pro (2nd generation) Truly Wireless, but they're packed with plenty of features you might not expect, considering their lower price. If you're looking for a price that's not so steep, try the Google Pixel Buds Pro Truly Wireless. However, they aren't as comfortable, and their ANC doesn't perform quite as well. If you're looking for premium earbuds with a longer-lasting battery, the Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 3 last almost nine hours on a single charge. These earbuds have the same six-hour battery life as the Bose earbuds with ANC on, and their case holds four extra charges, so you can always top it up. There's a 'Transparency' mode for when you want to hear your surroundings, but otherwise, you can't adjust the ANC. Their active noise cancelling (ANC) feature does a great job of blocking noise in the bass and mid-range. While they don't come with sound customization features, unlike the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II Truly Wireless, they have a well-balanced sound profile that suits most types of audio. These earbuds have the same premium build and a comfortable design as their successor, as well as the same Apple-exclusive features, like an H2 chip for easy pairing with iOS devices and virtual surround sound via Apple Music. The Apple AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) Truly Wireless are, as the name states, the next generation of Apple AirPods Pro Truly Wireless. That said, although they're premium buds, they don't support multi-device pairing, which is surprising at this price point. However, this is due to the shape of our rig's ear canals, and subjectively, there's extra boom, which muddies vocals and instruments. Luckily, if you prefer a different sound, their companion app's graphic EQ and presets let you adjust their sound to your liking. Their sound profile is more bass-heavy than what our graph shows. They've also got stability fins to help keep them in your ear when you're on the go. With their ANC on, they also last well over six hours continuously, and their carrying case supplies an extra three charges if you need it.Īlthough they're bulky compared to other picks on this list, they're a bit smaller than their predecessor, the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds Truly Wireless, and have a very comfortable fit. They easily tackle plane engine noise and ambient chatter, making them a solid choice for office use or long trips. Like most of Bose's lineup, they have an outstanding noise cancelling (ANC) system that outperforms their competitors like the Apple AirPods Pro (2nd generation) Truly Wireless.
